The Veteran Experience Show welcomes Kimberly Ollis LoSchiavo, Gold Star sister of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Michael H. Ollis, whose extraordinary courage and ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan earned him the Medal of Honor.
On August 28, 2013, during a devastating Taliban attack on Forward Operating Base Ghazni, Afghanistan, 24-year-old Michael Ollis made a split-second decision and placed himself between a wounded Polish Army officer and an enemy suicide bomber, sacrificing his own life to save another.
Initially recognized with the Silver Star and later the Distinguished Service Cross, Michael was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Kimberly discusses her continued work with the SSG Michael Ollis Freedom Foundation, which honors Michael’s memory through charitable initiatives, community events, and support for veterans, military members, and their families.
